From the mind of author, sports journalist and & broadcaster Lee Wellings. Welcome to Football fables
Eleven unique stories with dry wit and rampant imagination. Fables to make you laugh, cry and see the so-called ‘Beautiful Game’ in a new light.
“Fable is more historical than fact, because fact tells us about one man, and fables tell us about a million men.”
GK Chesterton
LEE WELLINGS INFO
A former sports and programme editor at Sky News, ITN and the BBC, Lee spent many years as a global sports news correspondent and film maker, always looking for the human story behind the action on the field of play.
His first book The Dilly Dong Bell (A Wake-Up Call for Sport) was published in 2022, demonstrating how sport lost its way through greed and mismanagement.
Lee was tackling the big issues in sport in his Substack.com column Why Sport Matters before his writing style - warm, engaging and colourful - took him into fiction, and fables, writing under the alter ego ‘The Fable Guy’. Receive brand new fables first via LeeWellings.Substack.com if you take out an annual or monthly paying subscription.
The fables are subversive and tackle what’s wrong in football, sport and society, but ultimately Lee seeks the light. His fables will leave you uplifted. And there are more being written.
The print version of Football Fables has been made possible by the exceptional publishing, design and editing work of the team at Chris Green Media (CGM). The vibrant cover is by Brendan McMahon of Classic Lines Design, and huge thanks as always to David Miles for his copy editing and editorial guidance.
